Yom Kippur Honors

Traditionally, it is common to auction off the various honors that take place throughout the Yom Kippur service at a synagogue, and these honors are considered great merits and blessings.

At Chabad, the High Holiday services are geared especially for beginners, many of whom are experiencing synagogue for the very first time. Since we dedicate the service to teaching and guiding participants through the prayers, we do not hold a public bidding during the service itself.

Instead, we are inviting you to participate ahead of time. You can sponsor one of the Yom Kippur honors with a donation of any amount. Your generosity will be acknowledged at the time of the honor, and your name and your mother’s Jewish name will be mentioned in prayer. One of the beginners in attendance will actually perform the honor, giving them the opportunity to experience its beauty and power, and your merit will be multiplied by helping someone else connect to their heritage.

Sponsor any of the following Yom Kippur honors:

  • Opening the Ark for Kol Nidrei - $500
  • Opening the Ark during Arvit (3 available) - $100
  • Opening the Ark for Avinu Malkeinu for Arvit - $360
  • Maftir Yona - $3000 (traditionally given to the Rabbi)
  • Opening the Ark for Neila - $770
  • Any other honor of your choice.

Every contribution makes a difference. Whether you personally come up for the honor or sponsor it for someone else, the blessing is yours.

Additionally, Yom Kippur is a meaningful time to strengthen your commitment by joining the Chai Club or making a High Holiday gift. Your support allows Chabad to continue touching countless lives throughout the year.

Shofar Factory Presentations

Here are some of the highlights from the Shofar Factory at Chabad!

It started with a presentation of all types of animal horns, and then we got to work! Did you know that all animals with horns are Kosher?

And here are some of the pictures from when our traveling Shofar factory visited Medrash Lman Achay.

It was lovely seeing the Yeshiva in action, with the phenomenal staff and great group of boys, which some of them were recommended by Chabad 😎

Watching raw horns transform into instruments of tradition was truly inspiring. The process (from sawing and drilling to sanding) was a hands-on journey into heritage.
